GreenButton & Geneious

GreenButton boosts the performance of Geneious and enables the completion of intensive analyses in a fraction of the time. Geneious achieves this through linking to Azure to gain access to thousands of high performance computers.

GreenButton also supports the two following applications which can be used within Geneious:

  • ClustalW2:
    Is a general purpose multiple sequence alignment program for DNA or protein analysis.

  • MrBayes:
    A well-known program used for Bayesian estimation of phylogenor (MrBayes is a program used to compare sequences of genetic material from different organisms, allowing the user to estimate how the two sequences are likely to be related).

How to Install It

  • Create an account
  • Select the tools tab within Geneious
  • Install the GreenButton plugin and also make sure you have either MrBayes or Clustal installed.
  • Once these have downloaded select your desired alignment to processes and then select the program you are going to use (MrBayes or Clustal).
  • For the Run option, tick 'on GreenButton.'
  • Click the Configure button to choose the number CPUs to use, and to also choose a name for your job.
  • To check the status of your job sign into your GreenButton account on our website.

  • Note: To check the version from within Geneious, select Tools | Plugins | Plugins and Features then click on 'Info' next to the GreenButton plugin.

Geneious Pricing

The new service will operate initially on Microsoft’s global platform allowing for improved and consistent performance, no matter where you are in the world.

Currently, each job is restricted to running on one set of 8 core machines. While you can run as many jobs as you want, the system is limited until early next year.

The price of the service will remain at US $0.18 per core hour while running in restricted mode.
